Red Velvet‘s Joy turned time back for all the ’80s and early ’90s babies in an Instagram post featuring what can only be described as the epitome of ’90s fashion.
The outfit’s head-turner was the Ralph Lauren Plaid Midi Dress. This near floor-length piece features a vibrant plaid pattern, embodying the colorful spirit of the ’90s. The bright and striking color palette is a nod to a time when fashion was all about making bold choices and expressing individuality.
To cinch the dress in, Joy opted for the Lookast Emily Leather Belt in brown. The belt added structure to the flowy dress, flattering Joy’s waist.
Layered over, the Marc Jacobs Fine Ribbed Merino Cardigan in Aqua plays off the blue hues of the dress.
In another pop of color, Joy sported the Adidas x Notitle OG Pink Sneakers, paying tribute to when we were all obsessed with flaunting our new sneakers at school.
The Vivienne Westwood Leonor Pendant in Lavender was the accessory for the ensemble. The design features a lavender crystal encircled by a sliver hoop. It added a touch of elegance to an otherwise playful look.
Cross-body bags were all the rage in the ’90s, and Joy couldn’t resist incorporating one into her look. She chose the Coyseio Ribbon Ivory Bag, which straps tie into a bow over her shoulders, adding to the whimsical nature of her look.
Last, in a twist that would have shocked the Gen Zs, Joy wore light blue jeans under her dress. Why was this so popular amongst middle school girls decades ago? Well, Joy’s flawless execution kind of makes it seem like it should have never gone out of style. The ’90s were all about mixing and matching pieces that were seemingly incompatible on paper but worked in real life, and Joy accomplished that perfectly.
